The R-value of an unfilled 8" x 8" x 16" CMU is 1.11. This includes two 4" x 4" x 8" spaces on the interior of the block. The R-value of this ambient space is 1.00—any space from ½ inch to four inches has a value of 1.00. This means that the R-value of the actual concrete block is a paltry 0.11. Will Cement in the Center Raise R-Value?
The Mass-Enhanced R-value of a precast concrete sandwich panel wall is that R-value that provides the same energy loads (for heating & cooling) as a wall of lightweight construction. The Mass-Enhanced R-value is derived from the Steady State R-value taking into account the beneficial effects of mass.
This site is all about DIY uses of EPScrete and the many things that can be built with it. Along the way I will compare epscrete to aircrete and other alternative building methods. I intend to build my next house out of epscrete and I will show how it is constructed. More importantly I will discuss why I am using epscrete blocks and panels.
The heavier the EPScrete block mix, the smaller the blocks need to be for hand carrying and placement. Lighter mixes will need more reinforcement. Many people may not have access to superplasticizers, polypropylene fiber, concrete bonding fluids, silica fume or fly ash. All of those can help to make better EPScrete mixes for different purposes.

The resulting steel-reinforced concrete walls are not only strong enough to be used as a storm shelter, but they are also energy efficient. Concrete has an R-value of between 0.1 and 0.2, but when combined with the built-in EPS , …

R-values change depending on where in the country the building is taking place, ranging from 1.5 to 3.0; Meeting the required R-value is harder, with additional insulation required. Construction R-values by Climate Zone . Product vs Construction R-values. While the product R-value focuses on the insulation properties of a single material, the ...
The clear R-Value of an Fox Blocks is R22, however current Energy codes recognize the lack of thermal bridging in an ICF and the contribution of the mass concrete on the influence of the thermal performance. Whole wall calculations indicate a Fox blocks wall assembly provides an …
Let's translate this to a square foot of wall space for a better understanding. If we consider an average R-value of 3.5 per inch for Hempcrete (a mean value between 2.4 and 4.8), a Hempcrete wall of 12-inch thickness would provide an R-value of 42 per square foot (3.5 R-value/inch * 12 inches = 42 R-value).
This webpage calculates the R-value of walls, roofs and suspended floors for most insulation material R-values. It uses the "isothermal planes" method, the same method as used in NZS4214:2006. I have recently implemented some changes to the way assemblies with multiple adjacent insulation layers such as truss roofs with a second layer of ...

Concrete R-Values In general, low-density concrete has a higher R-value than high-density concrete. The type of concrete used for floor slabs typically has an R-value of 0.1 to 0.2 per inch of thickness, meaning a 6-inch-thick …
Cast-in-place concrete typically has an R-value ranging between 0.08 and 0.10 per inch, similar to other types of poured concrete. The specific R-value can vary depending on factors such as the mix design, curing conditions, and aggregate used.

If we for arguments sake, increase the ICF EPS thickness by 13% greater volume to represent what the wall would be if it were made from epscrete we would have: 5 inches x 13% = .65 inch. 5 + .65 = 5.65 inches of EPS and cement. Since the R value is …
What is the R-Value of Aircrete? As we mentioned above, aircrete drastically improves upon the insulation properties of regular concrete. According to one analysis, aircrete might be able to offer insulation values of R-6 per inch.Blown cellulose, for comparison's sake, only offers R-values of 3.70 per inch.A home built with aircrete blocks that are 6-inches thick …

Calcium silicate is the main component of Portland cement. So, you are getting more cement to bond with the EPS beads. Concrete Fiber Is for Bonding. Not for Preventing Segregation. Additionally, steel, polypropylene, treated fiberglass, or any approved concrete fiber can be used to bond the EPScrete together.
Attachments/webing is not standard, read closely Post and beam-> not for me High R-value is obtain in two ways, 1) post and beam means less concrete=> more . 2) Higher R for this , but not so much. As an alternitive, High R-values can be obtained by using Quad-loc(sp?) Or attaching additional to a common block. Patrick T
Remember that aircrete is not really meant to be load-bearing so you may have to use concrete for these needs. Be sure to watch the capabilities rather than just assume you can replace concrete. R-Value of Aircrete. The R-Value of …

I am seeing that air entrained concrete has a higher R-Value than standard poured concrete (see below). Whereas it makes sense, the difference surprises me. Is air-entrained concrete really this good at insulating? Standard Concrete: R = 0.8 (F*h*sqft/BTU)/in Air Entrained Concrete: R = 3.9 (F*h*sqft/BTU)/in

Answer: The R-values in the table above, based on data from the 1993 ASHRAE Handbook (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers), are for 6-inch-thick concrete walls of differing densities.ACI 213R-87, "Guide for Lightweight Structural Aggregate Concrete," divides lightweight concretes into three categories.

In general R Value is a "fudged" method that was designed for fiberglass insulation – not for other types of insulation. Scientific studies and European countries use: thermal conductivity measured in W/m.°C. It should …
How does the R-value of concrete compare to other insulation materials? Concrete's R-value is significantly lower than materials like fiberglass, board, or spray . For example, a 10-inch thick concrete wall has an R-value of 1 to 2, while fiberglass insulation of the same thickness can have an R-value of 30 or more.
